Names for Rottweilers |
| When choosing a name for your Rottweiler pup, consider what he or she will be like as an adult. The breed is renowned for strength, loyalty, and work ethic, so starting with names that convey a sense of athleticism, intelligence, and reliability will help to dignify your dog's presence. Also, consider the impression the name will make on others who don't know you yet: anyone who fears dogs will be reassured by an affectionate nickname that may not be on your dog's pedigree. |
| The Rottweiler is not only known for its ability to guard and protect its family, but is also renowned for its maternal devotion to children and smaller pets. But the Rottweiler's instinctive need to protect loved ones conveys a responsibility to the owner to socialize the young dog with many different kinds of people and animals so that it is more accepting of strangers. |

If your family has more than one dog, it's a good idea to choose names for them that do not sound alike and cannot easily be confused. For example, two dogs named Sorcha and Sacha will not be sure which of them you're adressing with a command. If their names were Alix and Zoe, none of the syllables sound alike and so the dogs will not be confused. For more general dog names that may work for a Rottweiler, try our Puppy Names page. |
