Names for Dachshunds |
| When choosing a name for your Dachshund pup, consider what he or she will be like as an adult. The breed is renowned for being a devoted companion and even a lap dog--especially the Miniature Dachshund. However, this breed was originally developed for digging badgers out of their dens, so they can be very determined and not very timid individuals. Dachsies come in a variety of color variations and coat types, such as wirehair and longhair, some of which are not often seen. |

If your family has more than one dog, it's a good idea to choose names for them that do not sound alike and cannot easily be confused. For example, two dogs named Sorcha and Sacha will not be sure which of them you're adressing with a command. If their names were Alix and Zoe, none of the syllables sound alike and so the dogs will not be confused. For more general dog names that may work for a Dachshund, try our Puppy Names page. |
